IN BRIEF
Talk but little action on work force diversity
Globe & Mail. WALLACE IMMEN November 21, 2007 Talk about commitment to work force diversity is not being translated into action in Ontario, according to a report released yesterday. While 70 per cent of Ontario companies have vision statements pledging to promote work force diversity, just 26 per cent have staff responsible for diversity issues, according to the report based on a survey of 800 Ontario companies by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario. It also found that just 28 per cent monitor the makeup of their work forces and 18 per cent set objectives for work force diversity. Just 14 per cent have plans to increase diversity by setting goals to hire more visible minorities, people with disabilities, aboriginals, or lesbian, gay or bisexual people, the survey found.
